A história da banda se iniciou em Maio de 1975 com o baixista Steve Harris. Depois de ter suas composições rejeitadas por várias bandas nas quais participava, Steve Harris decidiu criar sua própria banda, se juntando com o guitarrista Dave Murray alguns meses depois. Trinta e quatro anos depois, os dois ainda permanecem como membros do Iron Maiden.
